About Us:   Volunteer Opportunities

Do you love dogs and want to spend your time making a difference in their lives? Consider volunteering at Dogs for the Deaf! We have a number of volunteer opportunities available, depending upon your interests, the amount of time you'd like to spend, and where you live. Our volunteers are truly a part of the Dogs for the Deaf family; we really appreciate the generous gift of their time. Below is a list of the opportunities we have for volunteers; you're sure to find one that matches your unique talents and abilities!

Foster Friends - some of our dogs find kennel life stressful; that's where our Foster Friends come in! Foster Friends provide a home and lots of love to a dog in training. This is a great opportunity if you live close to the DFD facility.

Volunteer Interviewers - Dogs for the Deaf relies on volunteer interviewers throughout the United States and Canada to interview potential recipients of our Hearing Dogs. This is an ideal opportunity for people who'd love to volunteer but do not live close to the DFD facility.

Kennel Volunteers - Spend time with Hearing Dogs in training at the DFD facilities in Central Point , Oregon . Volunteers supervise dogs' playtime, take dogs for walks, and visit recently placed Career Change Dogs to ensure the placement is successful. Contact Linda at (541) 826-9220 to learn more about being a kennel volunteer or click HERE to send an email.

Office Volunteers - Filing, packing, paperwork, and conducting tours of the facility are some of the ways our office volunteers help keep the office running smoothly. For more information on becoming an office volunteer, please contact us at (541) 826-9220 or email.

Public Relations Volunteers - If you believe in the mission of Dogs for the Deaf, you could tell others in your area about our special work and encourage them to get involved. We will send you a video/DVD to show at club meetings and/or send you copies of our newsletter to distribute to offices and people in your area.

Our volunteers make all the difference, not only with the dogs that enjoy their time and attention, but also in the lives of our recipients who benefit from the companionship and sound awareness our Hearing Dogs provide.

Lois R., Office Volunteer, in the DFD office with Tybo, Demo Dog.
